NHPC Invites Bids for 1.2 GW Solar Project in Uttar Pradesh

Bundelkhand Saur Urja Ltd (BSUL) has launched a massive 1.2 GW solar power initiative across four locations in Jalaun district. NHPC Ltd, executing the tender on BSUL’s behalf, sets an ambitious 18-month commissioning deadline.

Why This Solar Development Matters

This project isn’t just about clean energy – it’s transforming Uttar Pradesh’s grid infrastructure. With ideal irradiance levels, these plants could offset 2 million tons of CO2 annually.

Project Sites and Key Timelines

Developers will work across Madhogarh and Orai, connecting to CTUIL’s transmission network. The tight schedule includes:

  • PPA signing triggers 18-month clock
  • Domestic content requirements for local solar manufacturers
  • No storage component initially

The Challenge for Developers

Land acquisition and monsoons have historically delayed projects. However, NHPC’s pre-identified sites and fixed deadlines aim to prevent such setbacks. The project will serve as a benchmark for India’s renewable execution capabilities.

Future Expansion Potential

While this initial phase focuses on pure solar generation, Uttar Pradesh’s 2 GW battery storage tender suggests hybrid projects may follow. The outcome could shape national solar policy for years.
