Waaree Energies Launches 1.8 GW Solar Module Plant in Gujarat

Waaree Energies’ 1.8 GW Gujarat Solar Module Plant: Powering India’s Renewable Revolution

Waaree Energies has commissioned its state-of-the-art 1.8 GW solar module manufacturing facility in Chikhli, Gujarat – cementing the state’s position as India’s solar manufacturing hub. This strategic expansion comes amid India’s solar manufacturing boom and growing domestic demand.

Capacity Expansion: From 16.8 GW to 25.7 GW by 2027

The new plant increases Waaree’s total module capacity to 16.8 GW annually. The company plans to reach 25.7 GW module capacity, 15.4 GW cell production, and 10 GW ingot-wafer output by 2027 – enough to power 5 million homes annually.

Integrated Renewables: Beyond Solar Modules

Waaree is developing complementary technologies including:

  • 3.5 GWh battery storage line
  • 3 GW inverter manufacturing
  • 300 MW electrolyzer unit for green hydrogen

Gujarat: The Ideal Solar Manufacturing Location

Chikhli offers prime advantages:

  • Best solar irradiance (5.5 kWh/m²/day)
  • Seaport access for exports
  • Business-friendly policies

Gujarat already hosts 45% of India’s module manufacturing capacity.

Impact on Solar Developers and EPC Companies

The expansion brings significant benefits to solar EPC firms and installers:

  • Shorter lead times for projects
  • 21.5% efficient bifacial modules
  • 5-8% cost savings vs imported panels

Long-Term Vision for India’s Energy Transition

While upfront costs are substantial, Waaree is betting on India’s accelerating solar adoption driven by:

  • 40% renewable energy targets
  • Doubling demand every 3 years
  • Government incentives under PM Surya Ghar Scheme

This investment positions Waaree as a leader in India’s clean energy future.
