Hitachi Energy Selects HVDC Technology for Rajasthan Renewable Energy Transmission

As India accelerates its clean energy transition, Hitachi Energy will deploy cutting-edge HVDC technology for the Bhadla-Fatehpur transmission corridor in Rajasthan. This project showcases how renewable energy transmission innovations can overcome India’s grid challenges.

Solving Rajasthan’s Renewable Energy Transport Challenges

Rajasthan’s solar potential faces transmission bottlenecks. Traditional AC systems lose 5-8% power over 500km, while HVDC maintains 95%+ efficiency – critical for India’s climate goals and energy security.

HVDC Technology Advantages

  • 40-70% lower losses than conventional AC lines
  • Compact converter stations reduce land requirements
  • Enables efficient long-distance renewable power transfer

Project Specifications and Environmental Impact

The 8,100 MW link will deliver clean energy equivalent to:

  • Powering 10 million households
  • Avoiding 12 million tons of CO2 annually
  • Supporting Rajasthan’s 90 GW renewable target

Economic and Employment Benefits

The initiative will generate 3,500 jobs during construction and enable $2.1 billion in annual economic activity through reliable power supply, aligning with India’s 500 GW renewable capacity vision.

Transforming Large-Scale Renewable Integration

This project creates a blueprint for solar integration across India’s high-potential states. HVDC positions Rajasthan as a leader in sustainable infrastructure development while overcoming technical limitations of conventional transmission.
